If twenty dogs chase a cat, what time is it?
Twenty after one!
Okay, okay. You're right. That joke is a bit cheesy, but it has two things going for it:
It's a cute little (For children, it is likely that funny ... at least until the fifth grade. For adults, it could work as a pickup line at a bar or club ... with someone who is not as smart as a fifth grader.)
It perfectly describes how entrepreneurs and working professionals home sits on a daily basis.
If you're like me and spend time working in an office at home, often feels like the cat in the joke, and scraping the road running from one task to another. Every time things to do (huge, slobbering, snarling dogs) to hunt down and cut the heel steady.
Here are three quick and easy to implement time management tips that will allow you to manage your time more efficiently. If you put only one of these time management tips in practice, you will have more time and energy to focus on the things that make you more money.
1. Just check your email at specified intervals throughout the day.
I struggled with it. I can run several online businesses and manage everything via email. I answer questions, take orders and manage contractors through the mail. E-mail is the lifeblood of my business online.
I spent the best parts of the day stuck in my inbox. And most of those days, I felt unproductive and reactionary. That is exactly the opposite feeling of a successful businessman or professional work effectively at home want.
I moved from unproductive and productive and proactive reactionary checking my email four times a day: 7 am, 11 am, 15:00, 18:00. With the exception of the first meeting at 7 am, takes about an hour, do not spend more than fifteen minutes at a time of reading and writing emails.
2. Choose three days a week and spend an hour each of those days to catch up with your favorite blogs, magazines and web sites related to the industry.
I am a voracious reader. I subscribe to over 100 blogs, RSS feeds and magazines. They cover everything from working at home for time management, marketing trends, tips, web copy, SEO, SEM, technology and business news.
I spent hours browsing and reading all this content. I felt I could not afford to lose anything, when in fact the opposite was true. Do not get me wrong, newsletters, blogs and industry websites contain valuable information and ideas. The choice of ignoring all can save time, but it is a gamble.
Instead, take a few minutes and prune your subscription list. Evaluate each publication. If offered a personal or business value, keep it. If not, unsubscribe or delete it from your bookmarks and do not look back.
3. Tracking time spent watching YouTube videos, social control updates network status and read and reply to the forum.
I would never suggest you stop checking Facebook or your favorite forum. What I suggest is that the track of the amount of time spent on social sites and interaction with online communities. Whether you're on your laptop, Blackberry, Android, iPhone or tablet, write down time and add it to the end of a week. You might be surprised.
Physically tracking start time chains subconscious. And, as a follow-up time spent on various activities, will automatically begin to see time as a finite substance, concrete. After several days of tracking your time, your brain will "magically" begin to regulate and manage their time.
